It's been almost a month now and I got very fed up with PLDT. I have decided to cancel the account about two weeks ago. It seems like the staff at PLDT cancelled my account in error. The account, I was told, is past due. Upon repeated attempts to tell them and copied them the billing which showed "current" and no amounts overdue, they still take their sweet time to reinstate my account. So, the account is cancelled and I am now trying Globe Mobility. My sister-in-law has lent me her unit and I really like it. The connection is much faster - hurrah!
My nephew is applying for my own account. Since I do not have tax returns here nor bank statements, it is a little bit difficult for me. It seems like these are required for new accounts. I have to do a round-about way of doing it - through the company. I don't know how long the process will take, so for now, I am still using the borrowed modem. The cost for unlimited time is the same as PLDT Weroam which is P1,500 per month. I was told they don't give unlimited coverage anymore, but for some reason, voila!, I got one. Otherwise, it is P1,500 for 120 hours only.
I tried the modem in Davao and I was surprised the connection speed is so much faster than Weroam. All the while, with Weroam, I thought the cement walls interfered with the connection. It was very slow and disconnected frequently. With Globe Mobility, I had no problems at all. I even connected the MagicJack modem to the laptop and talked to my family in Canada with it. It was like talking to somebody in the next building. All in all, I am happy with it and look forward to receiving my own modem unit.
With regards to Magicjack, it is now being sold in Davao. I saw it in Victoria Plaza, but didn't check the price. It offers the same thing - a US phone number, and all calls to US and Canada for free. I recommended this to my brother in Vancouver. For US$20 per YEAR, he got one to try it. It works absolutely good, but was warned that it is better on a high speed internet connection. I proved him wrong on this when I tried it just on my Globe Mobility wireless connection. The Magicjack is now here with me to stay. For those who want to contact me regarding Linmarr Towers, Holiday Oceanview Marina and life in Davao/Samal in general, just email me and I will give you the phone number and times available. Long distance toll charges to U.S. may apply for you, but my calls out to US and Canada are free.
